Hi, I think we have found a good PT nanny we are interested in hiring. This is our first time so,please tell me the best way to get her background check done? Also, what is the going rate for summer care for a 4,8 and 10 yr old. In the fall it would only be the 4 yr old, so should the wage change? Lastly, how do you do your nanny taxes, do you use a service or do it yourself? Thanks so much. We are in Fairfax County, VA.
This is the link to the Virginia State Police's information for criminal background checks: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/CJIS_Criminal_Record_Check.shtm Your nanny's rate will be dependent on a lot of things (experience, education, certs, and her financial needs). For 3 kids with your age ranges I would expect anywhere from $15-$20 per hour (and yes, that is before taxes). In the fall your nanny's wage does not change just because your older two will be in school. I highly suggest using a service to at least get you set up for employer and nanny taxes. You will pay the employer share of social security and medicare taxes and you will pay the federal unemployment tax. Your nanny will pay her share of the social security and medicare taxes and can withhold additional money from her paychecks (just like you have the option of doing). At the end of the year your nanny will receive a W-2 so she can file her taxes. Hope this helped
