I get no notice except a text of we need you in 15 min. And they are late all the time sometimes 3 hrs late. As a nanny I can't make plans. Going out to dinner with friends is impossible when I get the text or call that I am needed in 15 minutes. And no I am not an on call nanny I have set hrs but they change daily with this family. I don't say anything other then I'm driving to meet a friend let me call them to cancel hoping they will get the hint that I had plans. They don't care in their eyes I am at their peck and call. I have never said no to them.
This is completely your fault. You have allowed yourself to be taken advantage of. Why do you feel like you can't say no when someone makes a request of your time up that you did not agree to?
I try to be as flexible as possible as a nanny. I am never late and can't imagine telling my boss no. I would assume they would be upset with me or would find someone who wouldn't tell them no.
There is a point where flexibility goes too far. If you are afraid to say no, you're not being flexible, you're allowing yourself to be taken advantage of. Either grow a back bone or don't complain.
