We are relocating to DC from overseas soon, I will be a SAHM and we have 3 children 18mths, 8 & 10. I would like to find someone who is a local to help me out one day per week regularly and for extra sitting as required as hubby will be travelling a lot and I will need to be able to attend school commitments etc. As we are settling in and won't have family around, I would like the children to be able to build a relationship with a reliable nanny rather than have someone new from a temp placement each time. Will I be able to find someone for so few hours, would it be more attractive to offer the role as live in with free boarding costs in exchange for the one day work? Does anyone have experience offering a package balancing wage rates and boarding?
That's a lot to ask for. The one day a week? Sure, it isn't unheard of for a nanny to work a 4 day per week gig. But if you expect her to be on standby when your husband travels....would any of these times be during a normal workday? I can't imagine any instance where someone is available to work one day per week and has no other commitments other days. If these other times are at night it's a possibility, but I personally wouldn't take a job offer like that unless it was in the work agreement that x amount of notice would be given before I'm expected to work the extra time. For example, if we sat down at the start of every month to schedule any 'extra' days I'd have to work.
