I'm in a similar situation in that I don't get all federal holidays off. However, I have explained it to my nanny and it is spelled out in our contract and there is no problem. I would have little or no patience for a nanny who would pout about Columbus Day but be silently and happily entitled to have the day of Thanksgiving off. Don't entertain the pout.
+1 MB here. I have the same holiday schedule as you (days after holidays off). I explained it when we contracted. I'd tell her she can use vacation if she really feels the need to take these days off.
Another +1. It was all laid out in the beginning during contract negotiations. All days that I have off ( I get more days off than DH), she has off. But I don't get Veteran's Day or President's Day off. I do get the day after Thanksgiving, July 5th, and depending on where it falls on the calendar year, Dec. 26th. I also get off at 1 on the day before major holidays and take off Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is accounted for in the holiday schedule, and if I take off the day before any other holiday (sometimes Thanksgiving or New Years Eve) DS' nanny is off without it counting as part of our week of choosing for vacation. She gets 1 week we choose and 2 weeks she chooses.
