I'm in the minority but I don't usually expect raises for additional children. However, I'm also typically paid above "market rates" and feel that I'm being paid for my skills and qualifications rather than the specific tasks I have to perform each day, and adding an extra kid into the mix doesn't change my skills or qualifications at all. But like I said, I'm in the minority.

Is her current rate appropriate for a three-child job? If it is, you could probably get away with no raise - and just give a new-baby bonus - because the time when the older is at school will offset the work she's doing when they're all home. If it isn't a three-child rate, you should bump her up to that (since you clearly don't want to lose her!).[/quote]
