The PP I responded to is constantly giving advice to inexperienced employers that not only should you speak in terms of gross wages, but also "average" wages. Its a dangerous generalization. Across all industries wages are discussed in gross terms, this is understood. There is no such thing as average wages in any other industry, so to advise someone to negotiate in these terms without specifying the need to clarify actual rates is misleading and bad advice in my opinion. Many nannies speak in terms of weekly rates, they do not speak in terms of average wages. If she quotes an hourly wage, that's precisely what she means. [/quote]
