Then A). I would never hear back from the family. Thinking they were still considering me, I would contact them only to hear, "Oh sorry for not getting back to you...But we already hired someone. However, if things do not work out, we will keep you in mind for the future."
For the record, EVERY rejection message always ends with the family stating they will keep me in mind if things go south. Not ONCE have I ever heard back.
B). I do hear back and they let me know they found someone, but that I am just great and that it will only be a matter of time before I find my dream family!

OP,
The economy is still in the tank, and there is just too much competition out there.
Do not take it personally.

Remember:
When one door closes, another door opens.

My mother used to slam the bathroom door really hard when I was a kid because it would make my bedroom door open. She did that to illustrate to me that this is so true.
