There is no legal requirement to pay someone to drive on the job??!! OMG!! That sucks. I better look into that. I always wondered if pizza delivery people get paid for mileage. Also, what about realtors?
LOL, yes go run off and look into that! No realtors do not get paid mileage. Some jobs cover mileage on the job and others do not. Some jobs cover some mileage but have different restrictions. The only legal requirements out there are for taxes, minimum wage, and OT with the exception that federal OT laws do not cover live ins (a few states do provide this for live ins). Nannies really need to realize that everything you want is not a legal requirement. You need to negotiate up front in your interview for what you want whether its PTO, mileage reimbursement, or cheese doodles on Thursdays. Nannies also need to realize that you can't assume that you will get something if you don't bring it up. The employer is not responsible for imagining everything they aren't offering that you may want or feel is standard according to your perspective. Bottom line ..if it isn't in the offer or contract don't expect to get it. Be smart and figure out what you want before you accept a job.
