Caring for children can be a career and a calling but it is frustrating that people consider early childcare as a simply a physically custodial blue collar job. Parents need to ask for more, require more and at the end of the day be willing to compensate and not just financially. I am a good nanny and I do not feel like a failure.
Having a job rather than a career doesn't make you a failure unless this is not what you want. A nanny position is an hourly, blue collar job. There is no reason not to be proud of having a blue collar job. Honestly, its your attitude that is the problem here. A career requires substantial growth. It usually involves an increasing level of responsibility or complexity. This just doesn't exist in the nanny field. You can keep up your skills but this does not make it a career. The fact that some really bad nannies exist who do a terrible job doesn't make someone who doesn't do a shit job a career professional.
