+1 OP’s nanny sounds unprofessional. |
+1 we use homepay they offer an advanced DD option where it would end up that the employee is paid in real time, but you still need to enter the time by Tuesday. So if they call out or something changes later in the week it’s a huge pain plus a charge to reverse. We did not even offer this as an option to our nanny. |
We do the Homepay advanced DD option where time has to be finalized by Tuesday. We do guarantee hours and she has PTO if she needs to call out, so it has never been a problem. On the rare occasion that payroll is run before we realize that we need extra OT that week (I think this has happened maybe twice in two years), we add the OT to next week. |
Echoing above posters: we use GTM for payroll and they require time sheets be in by Monday 3pm for Friday payment. They said changing anything after Tuesday is incredibly difficult, partly due to banks usually having 2-3 business day processing time for direct deposits. I give my nanny guaranteed hours and PTO and have a pretty regular schedule, but there are still odd occasions where she unexpectedly gets sick on a Thursday or I need her to stay a bit late with only a day or two notice. If you think explaining a one time, one week delay in the paycheck is confusing, keeping track of what has been paid vs. what has been worked/taken as PTO as two separate ledgers would be even more so.
I am sure there are options where I could cut checks directly and it would seem like same day payment, but that would 1) be an additional hassle on both sides to have to write and deposit (not sure my nanny is up for weekly trips to the bank after a long workweek and a long commute), and 2) require your bank to show the amount as crediting to your account same day as a courtesy, even though the check does not officially clear for 2-3 more business days. |
Well some of us live pay check to pay check. We aren’t wealthy or well off like our employers. ...or have our own bills to pay. It’s not about “managing” our finances. Anywho, I get paid weekly, but I get paid a week behind. So this Friday I will get paid for last week and so on. |
LOL, you should take your own advice. |
Of course it’s about being able to manage your money. Read Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman if you aren’t able to save enough money to tide you over for two weeks. |
+1 All nannies should prepare for the day they might be between jobs. |
Both of you sound dumb! Your nanny probably was young (still living w/ parents) or older, where she had savings. You don’t know the nannies background so STFU! |
Nannychex pays in real time |
When I was using homepay it was bi-weekly but I like them better than nannychex |
Most banks have an online app where you can deposit your check from your phone- hits the bank the next business day. |
You’re wrong on both counts. She was a single mother but careful with her money. |
I’m not reading through all of this. Obviously the system you are using is normal, but you didn’t explain this in advance, instead you up and changed when and how she was paid with no forewarning. You were in the wrong and now she likely can’t pay her bills. Now what? I don’t know. |
Lately, I have been hearing suspiciously often about salary delays. I had a similar experience at my first job about 9 years ago, but I didn't stay there long either. After that experience, I always chose my job carefully, and even at the interview stage, I discussed it. I understand that there are different situations, but it shows its attitude to its employees when a company consistently delays payments. At my current place of work (I am an account manager), we have all wages and related taxes paid through https://www.payrollindex.com/payroll-services/. I like this. I think that delegating the calculation of salaries is a good idea. |
