Do you provide Health Insurance for your full time nanny? Which insurance provider does your nanny use and what is the overall cost for the policy?

We just decided to pay the nanny more so that she could find her own policy.

Do you give her a separate check, so you both aren't erroneously paying taxes on that?
Anonymous
nope. no separate check.

We do. Nanny uses Cigna and it is a little over $500 a month for PPO. We write her a separate check and keep a copy of the bill in case we get audited. This nanny has been with us a long time so we give her this perk.

Health insurance payments to nanny, should be made with a separate check. Indicate in the memo line that it is for health insurance coverage. You can confirm this with your CPA.

I am a nanny - I receive a separate check as my stipend for health insurance. FWIW, I receive $150 a month for health insurance and my policy is $220 a month, so I do pay for some of it, but I certainly appreciate the perk regardless!

Most professional nannies commonly expect health insurance as part of their compensation package. If she already has coverage under her husband's policy, you can offer a comparable, but different, benefit.

Doing a separate check means nanny doesn't have to pay SS/Med/FIT/SIT on that money, and that employers don't have to pay THEIR share of taxes on the money either.
