For her to demand it makes her look not only out of touch but incredibly selfish as well.

You may want to let her go based on this.
I would…..

Why to let her go? Under what circumstances ? Just because shes asked to be paid according to contract? What kind of dummy lets a nanny go for sticking to the agreement? ZERO sense!

The contract says if she works over 40 hours she gets OT. If she takes a day off she hasn't worked 40 hours. You make ZERO sense. Or are you the nanny?
Anonymous wrote:Listen, I'm a nanny, and I wouldn't ask to get paid when I'm gone. BUT if I had a family that offered to pay I'd be extra grateful and willing to help more to make up for my absence.

I am a Nanny as well & I agree w/this completely.

2. I have more concerns about eye strain and attention span than parents do, so I limit screentime. That's my choice, and I don't work for families who want to insist that I use screens with children under 2.
3. Every child needs to have a mix of structured and unstructured time, and they need to learn to self-entertain. Teach the child to play independently in your line of sight while you do what you need to do.

I have read that many experts state that screen time is not healthy for a child under two years of age.
My now grown children were raised w/the TV on since they were infants since back then there was no Alexa to issue commands to play music and it was tough for me being stuck w/small kids in a quiet house.
They never experienced any cognitive or developmental issues in childhood ->> adolescence.
These experts cannot specify what damage actually occurs in young children exposed to screens before age 2.
Without any empirical evidence it is tough for me to actually believe their theory.

And now childhood experts are saying that the popular childhood program Cocomelon is akin to giving crack to a baby??!

I think it is important to separate facts from opinions.

I agree with this.
I have heard time and time again that allowing a child under the age of 2 to be exposed to screens negatively impacts their cognitive development yet have never seen actual studies where a person ends up cognitively behind due to watching television at a young age.
I would not stay in this job personally.
Unless the family can practice (in theory) what they are preaching I could not respect them.

This

I second this.
But yes make sure you + your prospective Nanny agree 100% on what household duties she will be expected to complete.
What does this economy have to do with her? Does she have any leave? Yes, you pay her.
Do you have a contract? It should spell out these things. If not, time to consider one, though it will not be useful until she returns.

based on what you said, I would weight the costs and likelihood of getting a new nanny vs paying her for her time off to help you gain some clarity.

This
$30-40 an hour plus mileage or provide a car.
Let’s be real tho. Which one is hotter?
You'll want to be extremely clear and explicit on what you want with "light housework."
Make sure you are allowing the nanny to have a break during the naptime, as it's probably the only break she will get all day.
For a newborn you should be paying $30. And that is full time so you should expect to pay benefits as well.
2 yrs experience is nothing, look for at least 5

$25-30hr depends on experience
