OP you’ve posted before.
Either accept the answers you were given and offer more pay or look into alternate childcare

Yes a family does typically pay for the nanny’s way if she will accompany the child(ren) inside a venue.

So your boss needs to do better.
So much better.

Your boss is actually the dumb one, for actually verbally explaining to you that this is a gift for you.

I once worked for a family that had two kids and I traveled with them to Disney World in FL.
I had to sit with the kids during the plane ride and entertain them while their parents sat a few aisles back.
I had to share a hotel room with the Grandmother which meant lights out at 6:30-7PM every night.
Since they paid for my flight, hotel, restaurant meals and park admission they didn’t pay me at all for the 8-11 hour days I was in charge of the kids.

This was about seven years ago before I knew that traveling Nannie’s got paid and that all the excursions, meals, lodging, etc. were not bonuses since the vacation was not my own.
Never again!
^^ Hi PP, no I am 100% not a troll, I am a real Nanny and this is a very real situation unfortunately.

I DID write child in my original post, then edited *children afterward.
I realized after posting that I did not correct autocorrect.

I have to wash the dishes by hand because the family does not have a dishwasher.

I only need 10-15 min of TV usually to clean up, max 20 min.
When it has shut off the past few times, I had tried to get the TV to turn back on because the kids wanted to get to the end of their particular program which lasts about 18 min.

She had been telling the kids that we would be celebrating my special day at this park and told me how exciting it would be!
Well on my birthday the kids and I were driven to this park by the father. He paid my admission to enter and told me Happy Birthday and that this was his birthday present for me. I thanked him graciously.
Well he then stated that he actually was called into work that day and after dropping me and the kids off inside he left and promised to pick us all up three hours later at the exit gate which he did.
When I later told a few of my Nanny friends how nice it was that my DB paid for me to enter this amusement park for my birthday they laughed and told me that that was what employers always do when their nanny takes her charges somewhere.
One Nanny told me she had an annual zoo pass paid for by her employers since part of her job was taking her charge to the zoo weekly.
They told me a real present would have been if I could have spent the entire day there, more than three hours without having small kids in tow!

Did my employer think I am dumb?
Or am I just ungrateful?

It sounds like you weren't bothered about this gift until your friends made fun of you. Why do you think your employers think you're dumb? Was it a great gift? No, not at all. It's something that should be standard for a nanny to receive. But that doesn't make you dumb. Being appreciative of a special outing isn't dumb.
$20 is low anywhere, LOL, and in DMV $25 is a min for anyone calling themselves a nanny
Yes, the dad is disconnecting the wifi so you can't use the TV.

It's incredibly immature that he's doing it so passive aggressively, instead of having a frank discussion with you. However, in his mind: He told you he doesn't want you to use TV and you continue to do it. So he resorts to turning off the wifi. It doesn't matter if the mom is okay with it; one of the parents is saying no, so don't do it.

Your post is strange though. You say the child can watch tv for 30-45 minutes a day, but also say you watch 3 kids under 5 years old.
Why do you have to hand wash the dishes? Why can't you use a dishwasher?

You say you only use the tv for 10-15 minutes, but then you say after it's been on it shuts off for 10-15 minutes... I feel like this is a bad troll.
This is not a present, this is a regular field trip or outing ... I'm sorry for you, I would have been pissed. Sometimes it's better not to get anything ...
Nanny here.

Sorry but I won't be on your side.
You're not respectful of his wishes.

He told you he doesn't want the tv on when you're there ... so why do you do it ?

You can do it when he's not working from home since the mom doesn't care so much ...

I've always respected my bosses when I was a live-in or live-out nanny. Even if I didn't agree.

I do the dishes when the children are napping and then I can have some time to myself to relax with a cup of coffee.

$20 in Georgetown is too low.
Do you have a parking space where she can park? Or close to metro/bus?
If you want 40 hours/FT offer $30. You don’t need to pay more during the times the older kids at home.
New poster. I made $20 for two kids in 2013. You'd be looking at $30-35/hr today for 3 kids.
^^I couldn’t agree more.
If a family wants their Nanny to take their children out and it is somewhere that charges an admission to enter then of course the family covers the cost of the Nanny too.
I have taken my NC to the aquarium, the zoo and ice skating and the family always covers my entrance fee.
They also cover my food/drink cost if the kids and I go out to eat lunch.
If I watch the kids for the evening the parents may often buy a pizza for me and their children for dinner.

They never act like they are doing me a huge favor by doing so either because it is not a favor, no matter how you label it so!
Anonymous wrote:Yep, he is definitely doing it. So petty. They want you to be God and be able to clean and watch the kids at the same time .

+1

I hate families that expect this.
You are responsible for childcare-not housework.
However cleaning up after your charges falls in line with childcare IMO.
It seems when Dad is home, you are stripped of any autonomy that you deserve.
You should be in total charge when you are working.
Since your MB gave you permission to turn on the TV then her hubby has no right to manipulate it so that it doesn’t work.

*Note~Most if not all homes have a SMART TV in their living rooms that only stream channels so yes, if the router is turned off or reset or whatever that will prevent any TV channels from streaming live.
I think the Dad is trying to send you a subliminal message here by manually shutting off the internet connection.
Anonymous wrote:Most Nannie’s prefer a set rate. It’s easier than keeping track of so many hrs etc.

$20hr especially in Georgetown was the rate ten years ago . You’re looking at $28-35hr. If you want someone with a clean background, over five years experience etc

So my offer of $20 hourly would be considered “underpay” to an experienced nanny. Correct?
