Having 3rd child, what is appropriate increase to nanny salary for Rockville MD? RSS feed

So, as a nurse and Nanny ... I have a question.. I have no contract, benefits, or paid vacation time. If my family travels without me, I don't get paid. Originally, I was hired to care for an 8month old and a two year old. Both in diapers. Recently, a newborn was added. So currently, I have three under 3 yrs old, two in diapers. I also do all of the laundry in addition to other household chores (not related to the children) I make $19/hr. I have rec'd one $1 raise in the yr that I have been with this family.
The baby is 7 wks old and no mention has been made about a raise as yet. Suggestions as to a reasonable raise request would be helpful...GO !

You are a fool for taking this job in the first place and an even bigger fool for staying. Your employer know you will not quit so why should they give you a salary increase? You are your own worst enemy.

Good grief, what a closed minded statement! $20 an hour to be a nanny, I'd take that offer hands down! Many people who have paid to educate themselves can't even find jobs making that amount of money. .. Not to say nannies aren't valuable or something. Kids are hard work! .. but that was just a ridiculous thing to say... poor nanny, only making almost $40,000... please!

If you are barely making $40,000 a year, you were not making enough money to have a child.

How is $19 generous in Rockville? Rockville is expensive. I'm in silver spring, I make $20 for a newborn, with no other responsibilities.
I don't get why any experienced nanny would take less than $20 for 2 in this area.

Just give her the raise that she wanted OP. I have a nanny a mile from your location and I'm paying her $20/hour for one child.

This is a 4 yr old thread people. If you have a current question start a new thread.

You are already grossly underpaying her. $20 for three kids! Dream on. She is going to find a new job. $25.00/hr minimum for three kids and just because 6 yr old is in school does not mean nanny is no longer caring for her. Cheap.
