How long of a break does your nanny take when DC is napping? RSS feed

When I was an AP abroad, my host mom (who was American) told me I was not to go on my laptop while her daughter was napping. There were no other children to watch and she had a housekeeper. She preferred that I read a book or do anything else. I found this upsetting because with the time difference the nap time was a good time for me to briefly gchat/email my friends from home and this helped me to not feel isolated. I don't know why it bothered her so much.

I'm with the other MBs who doesn't mind that my nanny gets long stretches off during the day. We don't expect her to do housekeeping, other than keeping on top of the kids' messes and maybe a little of their laundry. But, my kids still take 2 2-hr naps per day, which means 4 hrs that she is "off" during her 8.5-9 hr day working for us. I certainly don't begrudge her that time, but I also know it won't last too much longer since one nap a day is surely on the not-distant horizon. I'm sure she realizes her workload will increase soon, so I hope she's enjoying the longer breaks while she can. I know I'm going to miss those stretches of time off on my days home alone with them once they are napping less!
