It has been a tough time but I am now in a spot I can work and save (like really save money) and go on trips and adventures.
I also save for the unknown. I have this job contracted for 2 more years. But then what. I don't want to be unable to pay my bills because I'm out of work. (Which by the way I am ahead on most bills- mobile they owe me $1000 cause I over pay each month, my car I am 1 year ahead on payments, my internet and cable they owe me $800, my credit cards I pay every Monday and if they let me pay extra, I do. I never leave a balance).
I've been out of work, I've struggled. It sucks and I will never do that again.

This is the type of nanny that will easily get high paying jobs with respectful families. The rest of you bitter, petty, immature nannies with horrible credit and questionable morals will be on here in a month or two posting about your MBs hating you or not being able to get good references.

PP is not for real ... Why would anyone overpay the internet, cable, and mobile providers?

Why ??? Why not.

Guess what at Christmas time (October to December) I pay nothing. I use that credit. When I travel out of the country I can miss a payment when needed. And god forbid I'm out of work, I still have a mobile, internet and cable because I can use that credit.

Seriously I don't understand why it's so unusual to over pay bills?
If you have the money then pay.
It works out great, I have done spontaneous trips. Get off work, go to airport and fly someplace fun. Get a hotel while waiting to board. I don't have to worry about that paycheck going to bills, because I've paid them.

This may blow your minds but I over pay my rent too! When I moved in 2 yrs ago I paid a year in advance. I had no rent for a year. Now because I'm month to month I pay every 4 months.

I maybe doing it all wrong, but it works for me. And the guy I'm dating - he's always done this too. We laughed when we found out each of us over paid or pre paid things. He is a musician and sometimes doesn't have work. He can survivor a year with no income.
It works for us.

This makes absolutely no sense. Why in the hell would you give a company money that you didn't owe. They owe you $800 because you overpaid? Call me crazy, but you my friend sound like the idiot.

If PP wants to give a bunch of companies an interest-free loan, so be it.

You are losing interest that would have been accrued had you kept that $800 and other over-payments in the bank rather than get nothing from overpaying. Over-paying does not improve your credit score.

And, P.S. It's good to keep show a balance on your credit cards, that's what improves your score.

+1. You are losing money. Possibly a lot of money and hurting your credit. Better to save that money in a savings account - you still have the financial flexibility for all the things you mentioned but without giving all those companies an interest free loan and without losing out on the interest yourself. Plus god forbid you have a medical or other emergency, wouldn't it be better to have an extra $800 than guaranteed cable for the next year?

Also why would you overpay your rent? That is sometimes the only leverage a tenant has if a landlord fails to make repairs or take care of the property, or if for reasons out of both your controls, the property becomes uninhabitable (tree falls during a storm, etc.). Why would you leave it to someone else to give you money back, rather than hold on to it and pay the amount due at the time due?

Not saying I thick overpaying or whatever that PP was doing is a good idea... but keeping an ext a $5000 in your savings account throughout the year would only earn you like $10 in interest. If it makes PP feel better having all her bills paid for 6 months at a time and not have to worry and this is how she protects herself incase of loss of income then I don't see the problem. To each their own. But point is not having it in a savings account isn't like some huge money she is losing.

Super dumb to purposely and continuously overpay rent/mobile and all your other bills each month. Never heard of such a thing and anyone who thinks THAT is smart, well. Good luck to ya!

How much interest are YOU earning these days?

Anonymous wrote:Checking someone's criminal history is perfectly adequate. Credit scores are such a scam - if you pay in cash for everything or pay off your credit cards without interest every month you gain no positive credit. It tells you nothing whatsoever about the likelihood someone will steal.

I have excellent credit but I don't let employers run it. They can easily see I have a clean criminal background and zero driving offenses, not to mention my references. If that isn't enough to convince you to trust me not to steal from your home it wasn't going to work out anyway.

This. But I'll let them check mine if they want me to check their's.

No late paychecks for me, thank you.
