oops, pressed send before completing. Cousin told this to the nanny family. Nanny family asked: how much more are they offering you? $5/hour more. (Both families have 3 kids.) Nanny family said "we'll match it." Voila, their nanny of 5 years is staying with them.

It sounds like there are some posters on here with certain attitudes towards single women are still culturally living in the middle ages in some far off unheard-of paternalistic country .

You need at least $40/hr to afford a mortgage payment by yourself in this area.
I made 30k when I was a Nanny and bought a Condo in a nice part of Loudoun County they their first time homebuyer program. This is where developers provide some affordable housing in an agreement with the county on development. I was single and lives quite happily on my low income.

Only $40?

I make $80 doing childcare only. Meals are made my the chef. I have designated parking in the space closest to the house. I leave on the dot at 5. Mb comes home early 3 out of 4 days and I leave at 11am in those days.

Point being, don’t believe everything you read here.

I make more doing nothing right now, staying home on PUA. Family will have me back once the crisis is over. That's why i guess they are offering nannies more now, since lots of nannies reluctant to come back while receiving PUA, and the money offered has to be more than that.
