I am a nanny and this is not at all hypocritical. An employer can demand you do any number of things that he/she doesn't do. I think nannies would do themselves a huge service if they would understand that simple point as it is applicable in ALL fields.

A nanny and a grown-up. This is simply life in the working world. Your boss/owner of the company gets to do lots of things the employee doesn't get to do. Not the least bit hypocritical - simply the way of the world.

While I agree, I am thankful I can up and quit any job I am unhappy at. I work with newborns and infants but I will not work with a family that won’t let me leave the house. Babies need interaction and so do adults. Hence baby lap time is filled with nannies and mothers of newborns and infants.

Just as a toddler can demand anything, so can an employer. If a particular request isn't acceptable by the nanny, she may quit. But hopefully all the important job requirements were discussed during the interviews.
