There have been countless posts in this forum from MBs asking if they can make their nanny work for a friend in order to avoid paying them while the family is on vacation.
This is the same thing. The nanny is the FIRST person you speak with regarding HER time and HER labor. |
This is not the same thing. This is a family who CAN'T pay their nanny, a nanny who CAN'T pay her bills, and the OP who needs a temporary employee. This is a win-win-win. |
That might be but OP still needs to speak with the nanny first. |
No I don't believe that's what a wife is. I simplified it for argument's sake, and named things a wife might do and that someone might want to "borrow". The entire idea of lending out a human being is offensive and I'm glad you seem to get the point now. |
HER POST WAS AN INVITATION FOR MBs TO PUT THEIR NANNY IN CONTACT WITH HER. SHE IS TRYING TO REACH THE NANNIES WHO ARE CURRENTLY OUT OF WORK THROUGH THEIR EMPLOYERS WHO MAY READ THIS FORUM. PLEASE BE SMARTER. |
Do you think it impossible to be offensive, despite being good intentioned? Be smarter |
Ok but if her intentions were good (as I think they clearly were) couldn't the posters politely explain why it might be offensive to some without being rude? Being rude is really only hurting the nannies on here who might have benefited from her offer. Despite the fact that I know the majority of the nannies on DCUM are not crazy the few who are have scared me away enough that I would never ever post an ad or hire anyone from DCUM. Fortunately I'm not in need of a nanny, we already have a fantastic one, but in the event that someday I will need to find another nanny I will only do it by word of mouth. There are enough crazy nannies on here to scare me away from even care.com. |
The first couple of posters were blunt, but not rude. Beyond that, someone made an idiotic comment about nannies being like children, and the thread derailed from there. The rudeness came out when people began going back and forth taking shots at one another. |
I'm the PP you quotes and you are right. The first few comments weren't rude, the rudeness started with the stupid nannies are like children comment. But while the first ones weren't really rude no one acknowledged that the OP had good intentions, they just told her to go elsewhere. That really only hurts the nannies on here who could have used this temporary position. It's not difficult to find a temporary nanny through an agency so it's not hurting OP. |
NP, here, yes of course it is possible to be offensive despite being good (sic) intentioned, but OP was not. There is nothing wrong with asking other employers if they have an employee looking for temporary work. That helps everyone, including the temporarily unemployed nanny. I'm a furloughed MB who would gladly recommend my nanny for this, if we didn't have savings to pay her during the break, and if my nanny wasn't interested she could just say "no." Good gracious! The reactionary ignorance on DCUM can be too much sometimes. |
I think it is lovely you have found yourself In a situation where you are loyal to your nanny, still need nanny care, and are reaching out in order to help a nanny who is/was working for a federal employee. It could work out very well.
I didn't find it rude at all. |
I am not a nanny and I found OP's post to be rude, condescending, and offensive. "Lend" me your nanny as in lend me a cup of sugar, etc. OP is a jackass and, if she were even remotely, humane, she would have asked nannies not MBs. |
