So if you are NOT from here and are posting about something on compensation (where location matters), the onus should be on you to include that with your reply.

"people who are outside of the DC area not having any valid input on rates for the DC area"

yes, I made that point. And I would be happy to hear why in the world an LA rate has an bearing on a DC area rate. It does not. While the focus of the initial thread was not DC specific, I was replying to an earlier poster who asked "why is it so hard for DC nannies to believe people elsewhere earn more". My point was that it's just irrelevant to post your rate in LA unless someone is asking about LA. A majority of posters here are still in the DC area (and when they are not it will become a pointless waste of a board since 1/2 its purpose - compensation questions - will be gone) and so if they ask "what's a good rate for a live-in 40 hr a week nanny" and you post "I live in LA and earn $30/hr".....that is just not at all relevant.

Some of you insecure people just can't tolerate nannies who are well-paid, no matter where they are.

Ok, I understand where you are trying to go with that. But if the person YOU responded to had said only "why is it hard for DC nannies to believe people elsewhere earn more", then your answer still doesn't apply to that. We all get that if someone is asking how much to pay a nanny in the DC area, that saying they get paid $30 in LA is not helpful. That is why I made the suggestion that if you really want to stay away from that, don't have those discussions in the General section but in the specific regional section that applies for your area. The question WAS that why do people in the area think that in OTHER discussions about rates in general (country wide), that higher rates like the $30/hr in LA just don't exist? Which is a valid question for those that simply do not believe that these positions exist in other areas.

Maybe some people are having a hard time understanding what a "general" question is and the right places to post other questions in. That was the reason for creating the sub-sections, so that everything WOULDN'T be all just grouped together and unorganized.

Its pretty obvious that there is a good degree of lying going on about rates. Many of the nanny posts seem to be from young barely 20 something nannies. The ones posting on this board are just not high end nannies. Its a lightening rod for the disgruntled goof offs. I've also lived in some of the outside DC areas where a nanny poster will post a super high rate. Its not true for that area either but who cares? I understand the desire to want to inflate rates but doubt it works in reality. You're more likely to make nannies who don't their market feel bad about why they can't find these mystery jobs or scare off employers considering market rates into getting an au pair. Once you actually search for a nanny and talk to with real nanny employers and nannies, you see what the actual market is in your area.

I don't know that I see "a good degree of lying" - I see one or two posters consistently posting the same rates with the same language/tone. I think we're all smart enough to overlook their input.

I actually DID indicate that my response was not coming from the DC area, so take your attitude to someone else please.

Also, we did a poll a few months ago and the vast majority of nannies responding were not from DC. You can probably find it if you look through the archives, titled something like "where are you from?"...

Are saying no nanny can get paid 25/hr?

It's pointless for nannies to discuss their rates here. Period.

No, I'm the poster from the Seattle area and know that $25/hr is a common (although not average) rate for nannies in shares here. I also know a nanny who makes that much with twins. I make $21/hr for one so I'm accused of lying on here a lot too. But there is a poster (maybe you maybe not?) who posts high rates in every thread and all I meant was that end of the pay scale is not always relevant, especially without any additional context (special needs, share, high profile, bilingual, home schooling, etc). Outliers are typically not helpful when it comes to informal data is all.

I can speak only for myself here.... When I mention high rates, I refer to either what I have earned or what I believe someone with comparable skills, would earn. I should mention here, that I've seen parents who are happy to pay high rates just because they wanted a certain person and they can afford that person's high rates.

Are you bringing your above average skills and talents? If so, no. You should not drop your salary. Otherwise, you should do what is expected at the dollar level you are paid.
