Being an Au Pair in China RSS feed

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking into au pair opportunities abroad and recently came across the idea of going to China. At first I thought most au pair programs were only in Europe or the US, but it turns out China actually has a growing au pair community. What seems really interesting is that it combines childcare with learning Mandarin and experiencing daily life inside a Chinese family — which feels like a pretty unique cultural exchange compared to the usual destinations.

While researching, I found a program called Masons Au Pair. From what I understood, they focus specifically on China and help match international au pairs with host families there. What I liked is that it doesn’t come across as “just a placement agency” — they also put emphasis on cultural immersion, language learning, and supporting both sides (the family and the au pair) throughout the stay.

Has anyone here already tried being an au pair in China? I’d love to hear about your experiences — the good and the challenges. For me, the mix of childcare, learning Mandarin, and exploring a totally different culture seems exciting but also a bit intimidating.

If anyone’s curious, here’s the site I found: https://masons-aupair.com/

OP, assuming you are not the agency, don’t have any idea how difficult it is to learn Mandarin? Apparently not.
