Maybe it sound strange but this is reality. I work as nanny more then five years but never wrote contract with any family.
I recently met very nice family and both parents are lawyers. They want to write contract. I am little confused.
I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I have to work for one year.
I don’t mind if I already know the family.
Can they sue me if I break the contract? I meant if I leave after few months but if I did contract for one year ?

What things I have to keep in my mind writing the contract?
Thanks

I can understand why you might be feeling a bit anxious on this topic OP.

I mean……
Making a contract w/TWO attorneys would make me anxious too!!

I am not a lawyer but I think if you live in an employee “at-will” state, then no - you cannot be sued for leaving a job.

I will keep following this thread to see if others agree.

Good luck!

You are an at will employee, they can’t hold you to a certain amount of time. My experience is that most contracts lay out the benefits of the job. They usually include which holidays are paid, what your guaranteed hours will be, the rules of the house, and what is expected in relation to the child.

Nobody can force you to stay if you want to leave, op. The contract will probably state that you have to give 2 week notice, but even without notice, noone can "sue" you for leaving your job, lol. We are employees at will!
