Au pair vs exchange student

| We has Au pairs several years ago but did not have the have a good experience so we abandoned it it six months in. In short our first Au pair left 2 months in to fo to a family that offered more perks: mother in law suit, own car, in bigger city…, second Au pair met an American guy was discuss marriage 4 months in. She was checked out at the point, always late, asking to leave early practically moved in with her boyfriend so we just pulled the plug stopped hosing. Fast forward severe years later, kids are in middle school. We considering hosting an exchange student, because we like the culture exchanges aspect. Hoping to here from people who who hosted an exchange student. Is it similar to hosting an pair? Please note we don’t need childcare, just culture exchange. The good, the bad, the ugly. TIA. |

It’s not really an exchange imo. Our school did exchanges and we went to stay with them and they stayed with us. (I went to school in England)
Over here it seems to be you host a student without payment but there is no exchange where your kid goes to stay for free…. |
