Nanny family texts me at 10 pm to come at 5 am next day

I’ve been doing early mornings for an infant who wakes up a lot throughout the night m. My schedule has been 5-8 am or 5-9 am. This is my third week doing the 5 day schedule and they are my neighbors. They live 3 houses down from me. I’ve been babysitting the girl since May . I asked on Thursday what my schedule would be this week and she said she would let me know soon. She didn’t do that so on Sunday I kept checking and nothing until after 10 pm. They have family staying for a while so I was thinking maybe she wouldn’t be working and wouldn’t need me. They have a big calendar in the babies room with plans to visit NYC and other cities and it’s all coming up. I also explained I had a trip I wanted to take for 2 days over the weekend and they didn’t text back anything. I didn’t respond to the text last night even though I was up. This morning I texted that I slept early and to please let me know the schedule for this week. I reminded her that I asked about the schedule on Thursday and said thanks. We did agree on a pretty consistent schedule 5-8 am or 5-9 Monday to Friday but on Thursday she said she would let me know soon instead of saying it would be the same.

My boss does this as well.
They also have a young infant so maybe they both have New Mom brain & cannot remember important details like this?!

Anyway, I would discuss this issue w/your MomBoss in person, directly next time you see her.

Let her know that you need more notice on scheduling - no reason necessary.

Hopefully she will realize how inconvenient it is for you to not know until late + she will prioritize letting you know earlier!

I would ask for guaranteed hrs unless they’re paying you to be on standby. Idk why people think this ok like we just sit around and wait on them. So rude .

Op here. I didn’t show up on Monday and after that they gave me guaranteed hours and also told me about the vacations they are taking this month. I don’t think they would have told me about the vacation days until the day before honestly.

I put my ph on do not disturb after 7PM; i won’t allow an employer to text me after hours asking me to come in that early. As a NCS i have that very establisded in contract. IF the employer is someone that has empathy and consideration and asked me in advance then i would accommodate.
