How much families pay for a nanny share in DC
Anonymous
It is on lower side. The range is $30-45

I would say that's about right. We're in one right now that's $28. I'd say most are $30, maybe a couple dollars more.

Very responsible. Its double minimum wage.

Minimum wage increased July this year. It’s now $17/hr
$30/hr for a share was before that date. To stay relevant to minimum wage

Its still almost twice as much as what they'd get anywhere else.

Usually each family pay 2/3 of the nanny's one baby rate. So if the nanny charges $24hr for one baby, a share would be $16hr per family, $32hr total.

It is more often 1,5 of nanny's one child rate. so, if her rate is 24, the nanny share is $36

Anout right for a nanny sitter. Cheap for a professional nanny.

That’s cheap for a professional career nanny. Especially in this area

I’m getting $38, I watch 2 boys age 3 months. Wouldn’t take anything less and get all benefits including healthcare.

This is me, and I just want to note that anytime a discussion of nanny rates, and particularly nanny share rates, comes up on DCUM, the rates listed are insanely high. I know a fair number of people with nannies and nanny shares, and I don't know a single person paying more than $32 an hour for a nanny. Not a single one - and that's a share.

So I would take any salary info you see on DCUM with a grain of salt. I have long suspected that there are nannies who post inflated rates on here to drive up regional salaries. Smart move! But I don't think these numbers are accurate.

PP to add - and if they are accurate, they are definitely not representative.

the $30 per share is cheap, you are lucky if you found a nanny who would accept this rate. Also, nannies are all different, and those with degrees and experience make much, much more and usually go through the agencies. Since one of PPs, who says $30 is fine for the share, never mentions an agency, I am assuming her nanny did not come through one. Some families only use agencies and so able to offer more for the share. The agency fee for the nanny share is about 5K, for your information, so I doubt that after paying that much, the families would only be offering measly $15 per hr each. That would be laughable indeed.
