We have a live in nanny who works five days on and two days off. For the summers we’re away at our beach house so we’re flexible with the schedule so she can work four days on and three days off, which she likes to take together ever second week so she can go on trips. We pay for her travel expenses during the summer as she’s away from family by relocating with us. She’s been off for seven days as she wanted to go and see friends, she’s supposed to be back today but she just sent a text to ask if she can take another two days off. We have a busy weekend planned so we need coverage, but also we pay for her travel expenses. If she takes the extra two days and changes her flights should we be expected to pay for the extra costs? Also would you give her the extra two days off or hold firm on the original plan |
You are very lucky she relocated with you for the summer. I would give her the extra days off. I would probably also pay the travel expenses because it sounds like a drop in the bucket for you. |

Why ask the question? You already know the answer. Split in the middle give the extra 2 days off but no to extra expenses and make clear to nanny this is a one-time thing. More important who is covering your childcare? |
We do many have any coverage, away from home and we’re working all weekend |
* we do NOT have any coverage. I told her she needs to get back as planned. We’re event coordinators so she knew it was a busy weekend |
You doing a nanny wiling to work weekends and relocate for the summer. You many not think it’s luck but it is, maybe lucks not the right word….. but you lucked out, how about that? I would work with her if you can. |
Gasp, she will have to cover it! |
We worked with her to give her the last seven days off.. |
With your attitude, you are going to lose her fast! |
