Has anyone been successful in hiring a nanny who lives in during the workweek (arrives Monday morning and leaves Friday after work)? It seems like a number of our friends in NY have this set up, but we haven’t been able to find it here in DC. Any tips or leads much appreciated!

Why do you want live in during the week? If the nanny is paying rent/mortgage for a home if their own I would think they would want to go home at night.
You could maybe find someone who still lives with parents and can go home on weekends.

This is a thing in Manhattan because nannies cannot afford to live anywhere near where they work. So they accept exorbitant rates, live 2 hours away in a low cost of living area, and stay at work from Monday morning to Friday night.

DC isn't that big. Even pricey neighborhood are always less than an hour from significantly less pricey areas. So nannies want to go home at the end of the night. Live in nannies do so to avoid paying rent all together.

Yes we have this and we live in Florida. Our nanny is from the Philippines and she goes to stay with her boyfriend on her days off. This arrangement is her preference

Not all Nannie’s have cars so some appreciate the convenience of the five days live in

Living in NY is very expensive ; i was a live-in nanny MOn-Fri then I’ll go to my aunt’s condo in Hoboken NJ for the weekend. I was paid $38 hourly and legal OT and all benefits and still I couldn’t afford to pay rent. Moved to DC and my rate went down to $35(Georgetown), i lived in PG county now and able to save some $ not much, though. Luckily, my employers travel a lot for work and i make about 15 hours of OT and thats a huge help.
I’d contact Adventure Nannies, great agency that match needs for employer and employee.

Live-in Nannie’s do it for a variety of reasons. Personally, I like to be at least peripherally involved on weekends (working weekends too is better), so I wouldn’t be a good fit. I have a few friends who prefer m-f live-in and go to a relative or boyfriend on the weekends, but they’re set to transition to live-out when they decide to get married. I only know one m-f live-in who has her own property in the country.

Yes - I know someone who had this. It was a young woman who lived in West Virginia with family and would stay during the week, but would go home for weekends and holidays.
