I’m new to the whole nanny experience, so I have a couple of questions.
1. What is a fair rate for a nanny for two kids? One of them goes to nursery until noon and the second is going to be three months? 2. Do nannies only care about the baby or also do the kid’s laundry? 3. At what point do you ask for references and how do you know the references are legit? 4. Lastly, is it proper for a nanny to watch your child from their home? Please advise! Thanks |
$25-30hr
They can do the kids laundry. You do references after an initial phone screening and then in person interview when you are seriously considering hiring the candidate. Also run a background check. No, nannies are in-home domestic emplyees. If they are watching kids out of their own home, they should have a business set up to do so and be licensed for the state. Different taxes, insurance, and laws apply. |
Rate is commensurate with their experience. And at those ages, you’ll want someone with experience. I’d say $25/hr and she should have 2+ years experience working as a nanny.
Yes they can do laundry but I wouldn’t go overboard. I typically had my nanny move laundry from washer to dryer or toss in a new load, but I did folding/out it away. Call her references and get them talking. Ask about her dependability, her attitude, her helpfulness etc etc. Nanny should work in your home. That’s where your kids toys and beds and stuff is! Why would she take them to her house? Unless she’s running an in home daycare or something? |
As far as rate, $27-$32 hourly. Nannies take care of children laundry, meals/snacks. A nanny must work in your house. |
