Is it at all possible to find a covid safe sitter right now for a medically vulnerable child? Vaxed, willing to mask, test. I feel like all precautions have been thrown out the window.

Of course you can find someone! Our mother’s helper is triple backed and had Covid and is willing to mask. Our nanny is vaxxed and double boosted, wears a mask in public, is fanatical about hand washing, and has worn a mask all day with the kids when she had a cold.

GREAT to hear!!! Feeling very discouraged here.

Yes! We test our babysitter in our building lobby before she comes up and she will mask if asked. Vaxxed and boosted and responsible (older, no concerts, bars, parties, etc).

Yes, you will find someone. Just make your requirements clear.

I am a Nanny and I would agree to get a booster shot if it really was important to my Nanny family.

I also would agree to testing frequently.

However if I had to work more than say…..four hours, I likely would not want to wear a mask the entire shift.

There may be Nannies who would + that is good - however if I am vaccinated & boosted, it would just be a pain to have to wear a mask for a long shift.

However this is just MY personal preference.

Find a live-in nanny who is willing to mask outside but who can be unmasked at home.

I think OP is just looking for a babysitter.

Unfotunately, those things alone will not prevent a nanny from contracting Covid. The vaccination really just decreases HER symptoms if she gets it--not prevent her from getting it. Tests aren't necessarily accurate and often someone has Covid for several days before testing positive. The only true "Covid safe" behavior is to stay home and not interact with anyone outside your household (all of whom are also staying home.)

Vaccinated is not going to stop transmission. If you expect her to test, you should test your family too. Anyone being really covid safe is not going to babysit.

I am aware---I do this for a living. That's why we have layered protection---high quality masks (all of us)+ventilation+regular testing + vax and boosting

Yes, we mask around our current childcare provider as well. I also have to wear a mask for my 12 hour ICU shifts.

That’s not true at all. People still have to work and have gone back to work. And being vaccinated absolutely does reduce your viral load and you have less chance of transmission. That paired with hand washing and a mask is being very safe.

Tests are readily available now and free in most places and many occupations test weekly or even daily (my hair stylist).

Yes, OP, you’ll be able to find a responsible and willing babysitter. Don’t let the morons here scare you.

You probably put someone at more risk given your profession.

No, it doesn't really stop transmission and everyone I know who got covid was vaccinated and boosted and have gotten it multiple times. It reduces your risk of serious illness/hospitalization but the new variants are less severe but higher transmission.

Testing will help but its not always 100%
