I got a very good offer to start in September with a baby.I’m supposed to travel with them starting in October.Great travel opportunity.
It’s a very nice, young family and I should point out that money is not a problem for them.
How much should I charge them if I spend 1 week traveling?I want to be fair but at the same time I see a great opportunity financially for me.
Thank you

Establish a day rate for traveling. Use 24 hours as a day (or any part of the return day). I’m a nanny and two years ago I set my traveling rate at $400 a day. I also shared a room with the baby/child with all meals, travel, etc covered.

I don’t travel anymore but use a similar travel rate for sleeping over.

+1. Set a traveling rate. And make sure to include some scheduled off times. I was so overworked while traveling in my previous job that I’ve turned down other jobs if they included traveling. Being the 24/7 caregiver to children in a foreign country when they are off their schedules and very clingy is less fun than it sounds.

I think it’s awful that you had to be with the kids 24/7! Why do parents like that even bring their kids if they don’t want to spend any time with them?

I have my regular hourly rate plus a $ 200-a-night' inconvenience fee'. I always have my own room and employment law demands that the nanny have at least 6 hours off per 24-hour day. I really hope that nanny who posted up the thread about being on duty 24/7 was exaggerating.

Traveling with a family is challenging work though. I do not enjoy it.

I wasn’t exaggerating. It’s why I quit. My employers were horrid little people (but I loved their child). I could tell you stories about that dreadful couple that would curl your hair.

OP, just a little warning from another Nanny here.

What I have learned is just because a family is well-off financially is not necessarily a clear indicator that they will pay you well.

Sad, but true.

+1. Or treat you well or even legally when traveling.
