nanny wants to workout in our gym RSS feed

Our nanny of a couple of months requested to use our home gym during her lunch break to workout. I told her I’ll think about it, but I’m not entirely comfortable with the idea. It seems weird to me and I’m surprised she asked. She has a pretty easy schedule and there’s plenty of other times in the week she can workout but I guess she wants to use our gym. WWYD?

Why is that weird? What’s the issue with not letting her?!

As a nanny myself; I prefer pay for my membership at my Gym to workout after work. I would feel weird ask my employers to use theirs; it doesn't matters if it's in my lunch break. As a nanny I don't have a set lunch break. I eat anytime. Since I always busy with my charges. I wouldn't feel comfortable at all and also obviously I would ended up all wet. So how and when take a shower after that? Or ask my employers let me take a shower in their house too? I wouldn't ask. Maybe if depends of the level of comfort of every family.

Why is it not weird? She’s an employee. Would you go to your boss’ house and ask if you can use their gym/spa bathroom/whatever?

I had one employer offer me the use of her gym and another offer me the use of her fancy exercise bike. I don’t find it weird at all as long as she can hear the baby.

I also had an employer that offered me to use their gym but I declined. It is just a matter of work ethic for me.

As long as she tends to the baby and can hear her when she wakes why is this weird. Nannie’s don’t get a lunch break where they can leave. She asked to use your gym not sleep with your husband.

I can’t with some parents these days. We work in an intimate setting. Being inside someone’s home. Not an office. Hmmm let me think about it haha what a weirdo she is. Wipe my child’s ass but how dare you ask to use my elliptical.

Trashy and entitled response. You work in an intimate setting so it’s even more important to establish strong boundaries. Their home is your office. Why can’t nanny get a gym membership and exercise on her own time? And what’s next? Asking if she can borrow her boss’s handbag for a night out?

I think it’s fine she asked. Now you can say yes or no. If no though I would be prepared to give a reason.

This is very very common

I am a nanny and my boss offered for me to use the gym equipment and help myself to food etc especially after I have finished babies laundry. I didn’t know this was weird:/ all my former families I’ve worked with have always treated me like family. I usually don’t . Occasional I’ll use the bike .

I am a nanny of over ten years and plenty of nanny friends, i don’t think there is a right or wrong answer to this . To each their own . If my boss offered which some have in the past I would think it was very nice of her considering I don’t get to leave the house for a break and work 7:30-6:30. But if she didn’t offer that is ok as well. Every relationship is different and that’s ok.

Last Friday bm was cooking fries and asked if I will like some?
I said yes please! While kids were napping, I ate some and it was delicious.
While I was getting ready to leave, I overheard the grandparents asking if I liked the fries and Bm replied, in Chinese that I finished the whole plate. I ate exactly ten pieces of fries! My husband is Chinese. I will never eat or drink if they offer anything.

How is this weird?

Do you know how many high earners work out in their office gyms?

Is she too poor to touch your equipment?
