Overhead mom saying I’m lazy & sloppy RSS feed

So… I paired up with a family a few months ago. They had indicated that they wanted an education focused nanny. As a former kindergarten teacher this seemed great! We finished our two week trail and decided to part ways. They really wanted a family dinner cook, house keeper ect. No love lost. Family was good- but not the right fit.
We ended the trail- then following week they called to ask me back. Said they’d hire a chef and I was great with kids. Ok, no problem. I knew that the ‘commitment’ wasn’t strong- on either end, but I was having a blast so why not stick with it?

Today- overhead mom talking to her friend about how I am lazy, sloppy, and unmanageable. She is 100% entitled to her opinion. However, I no longer feel comfortable being in that house- when I know how she talks about me. I am a mom and also would never feel comfortable leaving my own kids with someone who I described that way.

I’m clearly quitting. But do I say why- or just say I’ve found something else? She’s clearly not going to be a good reference anyway.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you.. but Why would you expect a reference from her? It sounds like you barely worked for them. Move on. I couldn't imagine someone who just hired me think those awful things about me. And talk to me like behind my back. Just give your 2 weeks of notice and be honest with them. Be respectfully and them that you really feel that you are not the right fit for other and for some reason you don't feel comfortable and happy with the position. And wish them luck. It's ok if didn't work. This can happen to anyone. Just move on. It's always better part ways as soon as you can. Since working in an environment like that's It's not worth at all. Good luck.

I wouldn’t even give my two weeks.

I would end care effective immediately as it continues to not be a good fit.

Ok!
Thanks. I powered through the day. And of course, this is family that requires an NDA to protect their reputation/image.
People who can Spend a lot of time worrying about what other people say about them sure have a lot of unkind things to say

I realize this is snarky and mean, but as a former kindergarten teacher, you should know the word is TRIAL, not trail.

Nanny here- I’m so sorry this happened to you. I just left a high profile family and they were absolutely shocked, couldn’t believe I’d want to leave them, and basically threw me out of the house after 3 years of service. I offered them 6 weeks notice and they told me to leave immediately. People always show you who they are. Honestly I’d teach this woman a lesson on how to treat people and leave effective immediately, and tell her exactly why.

Quit, problem solved.

Dear Larla,

Please accept my resignation effective immediately. I think it would be better for you to find a nanny who is not lazy, unmanageable or sloppy.

Lol.
I would quit (after receiving my last payment) and not return.
I could never work for someone who could say such heinous words about me.

Wow. Another nanny here. I'm really sorry for what happened to you aswell. Your case and story were even worse that OP. This never have happened to me but to some friends of mine. When they decided to quit, they gave them 2 weeks or even 1 month of notice; to part ways in a nice way; those families did exactly what you are describing to them. Their employers just kick them out of the door telling them that they have someone already; in just one day, which of course it was a total lie or if they really found someone in less than a week they have told them that they didn't need to finish her weeks and they didn't need them anymore to come next day. When they told me how the families treated them I almost cried next to them.

Op here. I am so sorry.
Kind of goes to show you that there is more to bring an employer than being able to afford a nanny.

If you own a cellphone you know that sometimes auto correct changes spellings right? You should realize your comment means most if your K students were probably sharper than you are.

Hey ladies, everyone can make mistakes at typing. It doesn't matter if you do it with auto spelling or in a manual way. That's ok. The bottom line here, is understand the Posting. I wouldn't mind if someone judge my grammar since I'm not a native English speaker. But I love to keep improving and learning everyday. Let's be positive nannies and take Only the good things from others. So If anyone would like to correct my Post; please feel free. I promise I wouldn't be mad Haha!
