We are considering getting au pair. Where do these girls mostly come from?
Where can I get guidance on the process and some pro and cons information |
This website is a good resource.
http://aupairmom.com/ When we were stating the process, I first did my own research online then spoke to a couple of agencies, as well as host parents. You can start looking at au pairs without signing with any specific agency. This will give you a sense of the candidates. Good luck! |
PP's link is a great resource. Reading the blog entry, "When your AP won't stop comparing...", it reminded me of our first ap, who came from Brazil. She was constantly comparing her gig with that of her friends, and was very pouty when she didn't get what she wanted, even when it's explicitly stated in the handbook. She worked the least number of hours but demanded the most. We've since had several lovely aps from Asia who're nothing like that. For me personally, I'd avoid Brazil from now on b/c of how popular the ap program is there and there is a huge network of aps who trade info and share HF perks. It creates unrealistic expectations. |
