I want to advertise my services as a family cook who can come once a week or every 2 weeks for a few hours with single purpose of cooking healthy meals for the entire household according to their tastes. Do you think there is any demand for this kind of thing? I have formal experience with cooking for up to 8 people, and pretty good at it, but would someone want to hire me just for that purpose?
Yes, of course. You’d have to handle the grocery shopping, too, and cook it their kitchen only. Lots of people have personal chefs who prepare warm up dinners for the work week
thanks pp. I just saw White house nannies take applications for this kind of work, so i am going to apply there.
...but I am not a chef and never worked in restaurants, in fact I do not like eating out. Just plain old school good cooking using whole healthy ingredients.
the going rate is about $40 an hr but you have to have experience
OP--we are looking for exactly this in NW DC! Can you share your email or phone?
PP, would be happy to share my email as soon as I made up my mind. I am still super cautious about any extra contacts with the "real" world, and would be looking for similar minded families willing to keep social distance while I work in their homes. It might not be easy since the kitchen is everybody's favorite spot! But yes, I would be delighted to cook for you, PP, if you'd want my services.
Hey there pp here, we are *extremely* covid cautious and have a big enough home that we could be at least a floor away when you're in the kitchen. Love that it's a concern for you too. Please share your email/phone, or you can reach out to me at qxrpq7y7pl1s@opayq.com (seems like a very shady email I realize, but it's a masked email for posting on DCUM that forwards to my personal). I'd love to at least chat with you!

Yes, I am looking for that. It’s advertised as laundry folding & cooking, but could drop the folding. Cooking is the main thing I am looking for:
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/nanny-forum/posts/list/368315.page Most chefs who advertise are too fancy (and expensive) for our needs. I am not looking for catering for an event, but for simple family meals that we could eat for 1-2 days, or things that I could put in freezer and then put in oven or defrost and prepare. In the add I put 1 or twice per week, but it could also be 1 in two weeks - really depends on the volume you’re able to prepare. If you’re interested, reach out to me on email in above ad. |
13:28 here again. This is exactly what we’re looking for. I don’t need a chef who worked in restaurants - for that, I could just order delivery from a restaurant I am looking for someone who is able to prepare home cooked meals. I understand, they may be different from my home cooked meals (even if taste would be different from what I’d normally prepare).

Op here. Yeah, the cooking is pretty labour intensive, so you may want the person to cook only, not to fold laundry, since the rate you would be paying does not justify anything but cooking. I mean, I would only be looking to cook, and probably only hot meals (due to Covid, people would want to be able to re-heat them just in case, so no salads or sandwiches, right?), so by the end of 3-4 hrs you would be left with big pots of food, but even the thought of folding laundry, though not a difficult task in itself, would be probably too much for me, haha.
^ Covid is not a food borne disease.
I would want to re-heat the meals cooked by someone else, I even put bread in hot oven before we eat it, just in case.
does anyone know typical rate? Is it the same as nanny's or higher?
it should be higher I think.
