We are hiring a nanny/housekeeper and would love to hear examples of what has worked for meal prep when part of a housekeeper’s responsibilities.
Cutting vegetables/fruit, marinades? What else? Do I do the shopping and explain what we’re eating/ what needs to be prepped for dinner that night? Better to do once a week? Write it out? Have her take more of a lead? Very new to this. Thank you. ![]() |
You mean a housekeeper who babysits?
Does she speak and read English? I think it would be fine to tell her everyday what you need done that day. |
And yes you do all the shopping, planning. She just cuts/preps the food to be cooked by you. |
It depends on how old your kids are and whether she's able to focus on just household tasks, laundry and cooking or whether she's taking care of children at the same time.
Meal prep can range from 1 minute to pour meat in a marinade (that you prepped) into the crock pot and turn it on up to hours spent on one recipe. If you have young children and/or she has to juggle kids and other tasks, keep it short, easy to put down, or limit it to putting something in the oven. If she can focus and doesn't have to take care of kids at the same time, sure, she can do more... if she's competent and willing. |

I think you would say daily what you want done. Maybe leave it written out so you’re not explaining it trying to walk out the door too. |
If you hire someone with experience of this, you can ask how this was handled in her last job and go from there. If you have young children, I'd keep it very easy and simple. When we had a nanny for our young kids, meal prep was limited to either very simple boiling of pasta or rice, or sticking a pan of chicken or fish or whatever (that I have prepared in the evening and left covered in the fridge) into the oven for X minutes at X temperature. |
