Car seat in Nanny’s car

Hi, what is the best and lightest car seat to purchase for the nanny’s car? My nanny has her own kids and will need to remove the car seat anytime her kids are in the car after work hours. Has anyone found a solution for this? Car seats are heavy so I’m wondering if instead I should ask her to drive our car to pick and drop our toddler from preschool? Our baby will also be in the car for drop offs and pick up. Any tips??

Cosco makes lightweight, cheap seats.

I'd ask her to drive your car. With so much in and out for a car seat, it'll add wear and tear to it. On top of that, the chances of it being installed incorrectly go up.

You should never look for a cheap solution for driving your children. It sounds like it would be easier for nanny to drive your car; that’s too much to install and take a carseat out everyday.

OP here: thanks . Do you add the nanny to the insurance too then? Anything further needed?

If she's pulling them in/out get the britax click tight for the install.

car seat tech here: I agree with tbis. If she is taking it in and out frequently it’s not going to be done right every single time. If you have a car she can use where the seat stays installed that would be the best option. Failing that I would go with a Graco (any) because they are the easiest to install, or a Britax with the click tight. Cosco Sears are cheap and light but hard to install tightly. ...... This is safer, all the way around. Some insurance won't cover anything that occurs in her car during work hours unless she has commercial coverage.

Car seat technicians are trained to run car seat demos and inspections... Yes, it’s an actual title, and fairly well respected within the childcare/parent of young children demographic.

Car seat technicians are trained to run car seat demos and inspections... Yes, it’s an actual title, and fairly well respected within the childcare/parent of young children demographic.

Its a special training but some tech's are better than others. We saw some pretty bad ones who gave bad advice or did bad installs.

I am the car seat technician. I work in public safety so it is not my primary title but it is a title yes. I had to do 40 hours of initial training in the classroom and hands on. Then work at a car seat checkpoint installing the different styles of seats to get certified. Every 2 years we have to renew to stay certified. This includes more training/updates and a supervisor signing off on checkpoints.
