When to Start Looking for An Au Pair - COVID edition. RSS feed

Our beloved AP wants to go home at the end of her two years, even if there is an additional six-month extension. Her visa ends at the end of August.
I think we originally matched with her at the end of May 2019, and she came in August 2019. We would not qualify for a NIE, so my understanding is that Biden would need to lift Trump's visa restrictions. We would be looking to bring another AP from AP's home country, which has done much better with COVID than the US, thus far. Should we be looking earlier than May?

I'm looking for a May 2021 Au Pair now. The problem is, do I choose to pay the match fees for an AP that might not arrive until the fall? I've talked with a dozen or so and the ones that I liked have been snapped up while I tried to decide what to do. So right now I'm only looking at APs that are in country or can travel, which right now is limiting and frustrating, too.

I would start now and match with who you want. You pay March fee but I didn't the ban will be renewed, have her schedule Visa interview for after the ban expires. It's a risk but better than the in country options who are major perk shopping.

new post - the ban is set to expire at the end of March, but it can be extended. Brazil is in rough shape and much of Europe is heading back into lockdown. I am hesitant to look until I know that they will actually let au pairs back in the country. I was planning to wait until the end of March to start for Aug/Sept arrival. That is later than usual for me, but it's hard to put my heart into this when I have no idea if they will be allowed in.
