Our au pair wants to go home. She was a great au pair, but she is just really worried about her family back home. She wants to have the option of being a return au pair before she turns 26, but my understanding is that if she does not complete her program commitment , then she can't return on a J1 visa. is this correct? |
You’re correct. If she finishes her year, she can return. |
We are in a similar position. What if its an extension au pair and they don't finish? |
No negative consequence if it's an extension AP. |
Why is she suddenly worried about her family? If she's not an extension AP, she came over after COVID was a known thing... If there's some particular emergency, she might be able to go home to visit depending on the country, whether you would support it, etc. |
If she went home, we could not bring her back here. Too risky with COVID. She is worried because since she's left home, she finds that her family members are being less careful regarding COVID |
Honestly, it sounds like an excuse in her part. She’s homesick. |
Right? I mean what is she going to do? Police her family members masking? |
Homesickness happens. |
Then be honest. Host families will be far less frustrated if au pairs could just be honest instead of saying "Oh, everything is great" |
OP here. She is going home. Thanks all |
