Hi does anyone have experience with finding an after-school nanny to do pick up and care for 3 hours a day (3 - 6PM)? we are thinking of sending our 3-year-old to a preschool (Epiphany), which we love because of its nature focus. but it only goes until 3 and both parents work. the school is walkable to our house. How hard is it to find a good after-school nanny? what it the salary range - 15? 20? 25? If its going to be impossible to find a Nanny, we probably will have to find a different school. |
Very hard to keep but not find. We went through one great and two mediocre sitters in one-and-a-half years. We guaranteed 20 hours a week at $25 an hour for one sweet child - this was two years ago. And still two of them could get to school pick up on time and called in sick every other week. I had a second baby and nanny took over pick up of older after that.
That said, a friend hired a preschool teacher whose school lets out at 3 and she’s been amazing and still with the family after three years. Never once late. |
We have a nanny from 2-7pm. Does college in the mornings. |
A few things to consider:
-You'll need to pay on the higher end of hourly since it's so few hours. -Will one or both parents be home by 6 for sure every night? -Consider stretching the hours - school ends at 3. Find an after-school nanny and pay 2:30pm-6:30pm Are you wanting to pay on the books? Any benefits? PTO? |
You will have a rough time finding one with only few hours. Nobody can survive with only 15 hrs a week. That it wouldn't be even a Part Time Job. |
Which Epiphany?
We are in Dupont and might be looking for the reverse. |
You're looking for an after school babysitter and that gives you a wider range of options. When my kids were that young, MC SAHMs would do this job reliably for extra cash. Their child would be around the same age and it would be more like a supervised playdate after school.
I saw it work well for many. |
you need to find someone who has another job in the AM or does school. or simply someone who wants to work those hours and is reliable. so make sure you ask there right questions. I was a part time after school caretaker at a private company. hours were 2-6. it worked for me because I could have class in the AM or at 7 pm which was the time the evening classes would start at my uni. |
