Hey families and nannies, I have a question why parents need to be accompanied with the child to the doctor appointment? I have worked with several families for very long time and the parents never asked me to go with them. My last family wanted me to go with them and mb said "just in case". I went twice but I told her it was not necessary because I really have to seat and wait or if she prefer I can take the child if she doesn't mind. I felt that she was frustrated. The family that I'm working right now is asking me the same request. I really feel they just want to be accompanied by the help because I couldn't help by any ways. Do you nannies go to the doctors with parents? And parents why do you want the nannies to follow you? I just want to understand don't be offended. I am proud to be a nanny but the way people look at you when you are with the MB and the way MB acts when we are outside is completely a different person. I just think, she wants to prove something to people who even don't know her. I'm just curious . Sorry for the grammar errors. I am a foreign nanny.
Thx

Yes, I always go with my employers to take my charges to the doctor and always have. I go in the exam room with them. It’s an extra pair of hands; a chance for the parents to have uninterrupted conversation with the pediatrician; and sometimes I can answer a question the parent can’t.

OP. are you saying that she tells you to stay in the waiting room? Or does she want you to go in the treatment room with her and the child?

With my previous family I took the kids to their appointments. With the family bin currently with, the mom takes the child and I stay home.

I have twin boys and when they were younger and both had appointments our nanny would come with me - thank goodness for her. She would come in the evaluation room to give me an extra set of hands or take them to the play area if they started getting restless so I could speak with the doctor. In the rare case one was sick, I would bring one child to the doctor and the nanny would stay home with the other child. The boys are older now so having the nanny come with me to the doctor isn’t necessary however I know if I ever asked she would be happy to do it.

I often have our nanny go with us. We have twins, so when they were little it was tremendously helpful to have an adult to wrangle each child.

I also want our nanny to know the pediatrician (and vice versa) so that she could take a child in the event of illness or emergency if I or their father can't.

I’ve always gone with my charges to the doctor. I spend more time with them than their parents do, so I can answer when symptoms started, what was eaten, how naps have been, how energy and behavior have been. The only thing the parents really know better than I do is how the child sleeps at night.

For my positions, the question is whether the parent will be there, not whether I will be there. I can’t imagine telling my employer that I didn’t want to go!
