Yeah no. I’m deleting my account. Which is sad, because I’ve used the caregiver forums for a long time.

Call care to delete your account. There’s a splash page that will only let you move forward if you authorize and pay the $14.99 check. Since you won’t be able to get to the main page, you won’t be able to delete your account without their help.

I did recommend that they add an option on the splash page to delete the account, but the lady on the phone was very annoyed with needing to deal with this issue, so I doubt it will be passed along.

I haven’t used care for anything except the forums in years. I’m not paying $15 a year to talk to other caregivers.

Speaking as someone who has worked in customer service: cut her a break. She doesn't make those decisions. Do you think she'd keep something around that makes her job more difficult/results in upset customers?

I paid.

They have to do something to keep the scam artists off of the site.

I find it offensive how Care seems to love elevating co$ts like this.

It is a sham website as it is.
Meaning that ANYone can post a profile & label themselves a “Professional” Nanny.
And that many parents see the website as a legitimate way to find a suitable Nanny for their child(ren.)

They can go on Craigslist + find someone for free.

How does it do that? If it did, I’d be happy to pay. It’s just a ssn trace (barring anyone without a ssn from the site!), sex offender registry check, then a quickie lookup through sterling. The sterling checks FREQUENTLY make mistakes because they’re run with an algorithm, and no humans recheck them. Additionally, they search multiple variations of the person’s name, even if they’ve never used another name. Every quick check I’ve had through sterling has pulled records for someone else, records I’ve had to dispute.

Now, if this involved checking references, sure. If it involved a human verifying felony records, sure. And I’m fine running the cheap check if care or a family pays for it. But I’m not paying for something that I know has made mistakes every time I’ve had it run.

Or they can find an agency. Agency pays for the comprehensive check and then pays for the nanny to certify for cpr/first aid. Nanny isn’t out a penny, which is the way it should work.

So go through an agency. The new procedure won’t stop unscrupulous people.
