age 4 and up wipe their own butt?

Yes. I taught all my charges to be comply bathroom independent but I still double check at four.

They wipe, then I wipe (4yo twins). I have heard the rule of thumb is when their arms are long enough to reach over their head and touch the opposite ear. My guys’ arms are still a little short for that so I am assuming they aren’t great at this yet.

Depends on the kid. Many still need help.

Of course! I had my children toilet trained by age 3.

Mine could do it herself right before she turned 5.

Depends on how long the arm is, how coordinated the child is, and how motivated the child is. I’ve had big kid who could reach, but due to growing so fast, they weren’t coordinated enough to do it. Some kids just can’t reach far enough. And I’ve had plenty of kids who were in such a rush to get back to playing that they “forgot” unless I checked.

They should have been fully trained no later than 2.5, 3 is late.

Three isn't late.

Many children show signs of being ready for potty training between ages 18 and 24 months. However, others might not be ready until they're 3 years old.

In the 1940s, the average age for potty training was 18 months. Averages today, according to a 2001 study by Schum, show baby boys in the United States give up diapers at 39 months and girls at 35 months.

Toilet trained and wipe trained is different. Some kids arms and coordination is just not there at 3.

If they can't wipe they're not fully toilet trained. And you have to TEACH coordination.

Lol, I know, right? I'm such a lazy parent - they'll probably wind up in community college if they go at all.

I teach coordination, balance, etc. How do you suggest I teach a child whose arm is not long enough to reach yet?
