Before all the stuff happened I was planning on searching for new job. Can any nanny or employer give me some advice in terms of navigating the job search during these confusing times. Are people looking to hire requiring a new person coming aboard to quarantine before transistion? Should I just wait until things settle down to look for new job? Really looking to relocate with a newborn. Any advice appreciated. |
Completely socially isolate now - I mean from everything. Start answering ads for newborns and handle the first interview online. Ask them specifically about their social distancing, jobs and relatives.
Yes, based on the inquiries I have received this is a great time to be looking for a nanny position. |
I cannot completely isolate without giving my current employers at least two to four weeks notice. I'm totally willing to do that but wouldn't be able to afford to do it for longer than two weeks. |
Hi, sorry - didn’t realize you were going to continue working. Same advice through - start looking now. After you get the job, isolate or get tested. |
OK thanks but I won't be able to get tested without showing symptoms. |
You're going to have a very hard time finding a new job if you can't completely socially isolate. Because I would never hire someone who'd been around another family with kids, doing whatever.
We are paying our nanny extra each week to socially isolate aside from our house. We bought them an Instacart Express membership, Amazon Prime membership, Hulu, etc. Our nanny comes to our house and goes home and nowhere else. |
Are out on care.com, OP? I am getting at least one inquiry a day and my profile is inactive (I’ve bee happily employed for a year and a half). Most from parents expecting babies. Of course they will want you to socially isolate before meeting the baby and starting work so plan for that two week downtime as best you can.
But it’s clearly a “nannies’ market” right now. Update your infant CPR online and your tDAP shot. |
OP here and I haven't been aggressive about this because I'm not sure how this would work. Obviously in person interviews arent' happening anytime soon. I would have to give my current NF at least a month's notice and then quarantine for 2 weeks after that. Should I look for permanent placement or just a summertime position (that could last well past summer if schools don't reopen). I'm so confused. |
Permanent and with a newborn. |
Op: not sure if this appropriate, but where are you located and do you have more info? I have a three month old and am just starting a nanny search to start in mid July or August |
I live in close to Kensington. Is there a way I could send you a private message. I'm hesitant to put my contact info here. |
Sorry, meant live close to Kensington but I am a live out nanny. |
PPS I live alone, I am single and I am committed to adhering to all safety measures during this crazy time. |
Op: I’m not sure how to send private messages on this site but you can email me at jekmds1979@yahoo.com with more info. We are located in Bethesda and have a 3 month old. Thanks! |
