Hi I was just wondering how many of you nannies decided to stay with the current families, despite not receiving a pay check and not working?
Is everybody filing for unemployment and leaving the families? Or collecting unemployment and than going back to the families? I’m just curious to see how many are staying with their families. |
Why would nannies be staying with the family? You mean as in living with them because they are live in nannies, or nannies that have their own homes staying with the family for isolation and not being paid? I’m confused |
OP
Oh my mistake I meant to say HOW many nannies will continue to work for their families after this is over? Even if you have to take unemployment or don’t get paid at all (whoever can’t get unemployment) Are there nannies who can’t work now (because family said no), collect unemployment and then go back to the jobs they had before this crisis (assuming the job is still there). |
I would think most nannies are continuing to work. Nannies are considered essential workers. If they need to let you go during this pandemic, then hopefully nannies are being paid legally so that they can collect unemployment. |
I’m still working. All the nannies I know are. |
I am.
I feel I have built such a rapport w/my Nanny families up to this point that leaving them, especially the children would be sad. Yet I completely understand why a Nanny who was not being paid would take another job if offered. |
Me too. It has nothing to do with what are employers do for a living. It is unfair for us and unfair for my employers. |
Important point. Under the table payments or undocumented immigrants are not eligible for these federal benefits, right? |
Correct. Lots of unscrupulous parents will be hearing from the government if the nanny applies for unemployment. Better to continue paying her. |
Why should they? If you aren't paying taxes, you shouldn't get to file for unemployment. |
Well they are entitled to it, but if the parents aren’t paying unemployment, then they are breaking the law. |
Only one of my friends is still having their nanny come. The rest of us are paying ours to stay home. Why would anyone continue to work and not get paid though? |
That’s not what OP asked. The question was whether nannies who aren’t working with a family and aren’t being paid will be available to them again after this is over. I think it’ll depend a lot on whether they can find temporary or permanent jobs during this. If daycare families just want temporary help, they’ll go back to the nanny families after, even if they decide to look for different nanny families. |
