Live-In Nanny? RSS feed

Hello:

We have been an au pair family for 5 years and out current au pair's contract is up in June.

With the uncertainty around COVID, we are thinking of instead going with a reputable Nanny agency.

Which ones do you recommend and has anyone used MyNanny?

https://mynannyagency.com/

Thanks!

Call Susan at NannyPoppinz ASAP. She has several live-in nannies available now.

People who can afford it and have the space, now want a live-in.

An au pair should have never been exposed to Covid-29 in your house and if she gets sick or dies, you are responsible!

We've had a live-in nanny for the last two years and I highly recommend it if the chemistry is right. Ours is a godsend as I can continue working now when everyone with live-out nannies is scrambling for care. We found her through word of mouth

How does pay work with live in nannies? Do you still pay the same hourly wage?

Depends on several things. Some nannies prefer to live-out; if/when they live in, their salary is the same or higher. Some people fall themselves nannies while starting off in childcare, with no experience or education; they can be hired for a salary equivalent to what an au Pam r family pays to the AP and agency combined. Most families don’t offer a choice of live-in vs live-out; according to the irs, in order to deduct room and board, the nanny must choose to live in. And there are certain positions that make living in a condition of work, like 16 hour days, 24/5, or 24/7.

I maintain my regular rate if I agree to live-in, so no discount.

That depends on the setup. Nannies who have no mortgage and rely on you for housing are likely to work at lower rates since it works out as a great deal for her. If a nanny still maintains a place of her own, then she's likely to charge the same rates as her bills do not change. Our nanny doesn't own or rent while she's with us, and while her rate is significantly lower than what we would have paid to a live-out, it's still a great deal for her because she has essentially no expenses other than clothes and personal care items.

It’s harder to find a good fit as a live-in nanny. While I don’t charge full live-out rates, I do charge more than most parents want to pay, because short-term housing is more expensive when I’m between jobs (and taking my time to find something great). Also, many live-in nannies help to support other family members.

If living in is a condition of employment then you cannot deduct room and board from her salary.

Exactly. Most parents don’t seem to understand this fact.

They understand but are just cheap! They prefer to hire undocumented because they can get around the law.
