My au pair rematched herself a few weeks ago, and I'm not getting another one because I'm at home now. I paid agency fee in full up front, so APIA owes me a hefty refund. But they appear to be slow-walking it and making excuses to delay. I just want my money back before they go bankrupt, with no money coming in, and I think they are delaying because they see the writing on the wall in terms of their finances. Is anyone else having success getting their money back in the last couple of weeks? |
I am with CCAP, and nope. I've been met with radio silence on my request as to timing and confirming the amount of my refund. Luckily we only ended 3 months short, however, so my expectations as to amount are low anyway. |
I thought with most agencies, you didn't get any refund if you had your AP for more than 6 months (1/2 the contract). They would give a credit toward a new AP but no money. No? |
This is PP, you are probably correct, yes, but we had already paid for our next Au Pair, so there was some debate if we'd see the credit come in the form of a cash rebate. |
Email her, she’s the new regional manager:
Claudia Nixon Regional Program Manager| Au Pair in America 1 High Ridge Park Stamford, CT 06905 203-399-5066 Email: cnixon@aifs.com |
OP here-- I'm not in DC area, so different regional manager. Have already contacted that person for my region, and she's not responding. Going to call today, because this is ridiculous. |
Yasmine Osman used to be the regional program manager, but now she is the deputy director, I would try her:

OP here again. I spoke to someone on the phone at APIA who told me it would take 10 business days to process a refund after it was requested. She could not tell me the exact amount I would receive as a refund.
I then received an email from the regional manager saying that "refunds are backlogged right now", and that it would take up to 30 days (!) to receive a refund. This agency and all the others are going bankrupt with no money coming in, and they know it, so they are making excuses to not pay. Get out while you can, if you can. |
Settle down. APIA is bankrolled by a huge conglomerate. |
Honest question - do you think that will settle anyone down? That sort of tone only irks people and won't result in productive conversation. Of course you can post anything you want, and we can scroll by anything that doesn't please us, so this is just consideration I'm throwing out there for you. Thanks for any sincere consideration you give it. |
I’m in MA with ccap and just got my option 4 refund today. I actually am surprised and thought we wouldn’t get it without a fight. |
What did you have to do to get it? We just lost our au pair - went home for coronavirus and now need a refund. They make it a little difficult to figure out how to request it. |
+1. Did you have less than 6 months left? Our AP left due to coronavirus and CCAP told us we could only get a credit. |
