Would you let a nanny go for this? RSS feed

Our nanny is sweet and good (from what we see) to our 13 month old, but there have been several instances of her not listening to things we ask. For example, she kept bringing her dog to work. We asked her to stop, she did for a while and then announced one day that she was bringing the dog again and got upset when I said no dog under any circumstances.

We are leaving on a redeye tonight and need to keep the baby on a nap schedule. Today she came for a few hours in the morning and when I got back she told me that she took the baby with her somewhere (they were gone for an hour, my alarm system logs door openings) and that baby fell asleep in the car. Baby is now refusing to nap. The nanny had taken her on a personal errand, in only her pjs (no socks shoes or coat).

Writing this all out...this is crazy right?

Where did you find her?? She isn’t a nanny. No nanny would take a baby out in this cold without shoes or socks. That’s outrageous. Yes, fire her.

Can you afford to hire a professional?

And I didn’t even get to the dog problem. Please ask someone to help you with your next interviewing and hiring process.

Oy that's what's so crazy. She IS a professional! I pay her $22 an hour and she works for a friend of mine too, she has excellent references. I only use her 10 hours a week. Maybe she just walks all over me because she knows I have no spine.

I’d let her go. She sounds selfish in not putting your child’s needs first.

Maybe your friend has lower expectations. I still would not consider this woman to be a professional. You may need to pay closer to 28-30 for ten hours a week in this area. Please fire this woman asap. She’s totally irresponsible.

The rate doesn’t matter, she’s not a professional, not with what she’s doing.

She isn’t professional and that’s not a professional or good rate for 10 hours. For 10 hrs you’re lucky to find anyone. So if you actually want someone professional you will need to pay a lot more to make it worth their actual time.

Exactly.

You don't bring dog to work nor run personal errands without permission. I would find someone new.

Is there a language barrier perhaps?

I might take that into consideration first.

Ultimately if she is blatantly going against your instructions then yes, I would be issuing her her walking papers.

A professional will cost more than $22, closer to $30.
And you should expect to have your baby properly clothed for the cold. And no taking the pet to work.

Was the dog discussed when you talked to her about working for you? I used to take my dog to evening babysitting because she had been in her own while I was at work with nanny family. I always told babysitting people that was part of the deal though. Going out in just jammies is odd in a day like today and I would consider letting go for that, however wanting your baby on a schedule because you are taking her in a red eye flight is asanine.........

A great Nanny here. And let me tell you that you hired the wrong nanny. That is not professional at all. First of all.. how she can do this..take your little baby out with this cold and also cutting and missing up his schedule without your permission Only to do some personal erands No way.. and on the other hand abusing of your generosity bringing her dog to work? Woww.. no idea where you found her. A Great Nanny never will do that. She will always care so much for the well being of your baby and also crossing the line about all the trust that you are giving to her. No way.

Did you fire her? Or are you a troll?
