Nanny asking to be paid for cancelling on trial shifts RSS feed

So I realize this sounds completely bizarre but hear me out ...

I booked with a nanny who branded herself as a professional. She charges $25/hr. I had sent her an email with my daughters schedule and the hours I needed. She seemed like a great fit so I scheduled her for a 4 day trial period.

Then, today and yesterday, she cancelled 30 minutes prior to her shift because of weather and not feeling safe driving. It was too short notice for me to call any of my backup sitters so I had to call out of work and my husband had to leave work early. It was a huge inconvenience for us.

She just sent me a request on Venmo for the days she cancelled. In my sample contract I stated we do not pay for days the nanny cancels her shift and she has to utilize vacation or PTO, none of which she has accrued since technically she hadn’t even started. But she’s stating it’s within her policy (which she did not send ME!) that she requires payment.

Wtf. I kind of want to tell her to kick rocks.

Nothing was signed and it looks like a poor fit. Didn't even make it through the trial peroid. A professional would have provided and completed paper work ahead of time.

I wouldn't hire her as the weather hasn't been that bad except if you live elsewhere. Actually the weather has been great but no, its a trial and she canceled.

Honestly almost sounds like a scam. I would not pay and I would probably play extremely dumb in my responses. “I think you sent me a Venmo request in error!”

Sounds like a scam don’t hire her

Where are you located ? Is the weather bad ? Icy snow ?

You said you agreed to four trial days and she cancelled two. Did she work two days? If so, you definitely need to pay her for the two trial days she worked, not the ones she cancelled. If you cancelled them, I'd say pay.

What? No! Don’t pay her. Her “policy” is to be paid for days she cancels within a four-day trial period? Yeah.

Tell her to kick rocks.

Nanny here and this loser-nanny is as far from professional as you can get. She is absolutely not entitled to payment for trial days prior to established contract. Plus it’s a definite red flag that she feels entitled to payment.

Run, OP. She is going to be a headache.

Bravo for the trial period - you learned all you need to learn about her. This nanny failed. Move on to your next candidate.

And she has proven herself not to be a professional nanny.

-signed, a nanny

This sounds suspiciously like a direct scam to me OP!!

Do not fall for it!
And even if this is not a scam - then just ignore this “Professional” Nanny & count your blessings that you have obviously dodged a huge bullet.

It appears this so-called Nanny only sees your daughter as a ca$h cow.

Moo!

You dodged a bullet. Absolutely do not pay her for days she cancelled. Of a trial?!!

Have you even met her? Sounds like a scam to me.

If it’s not a scam, do not hire her and pay her nothing.
