Extending visa? RSS feed

Anonymous
My AP is scheduled to leave at the end of March. She has been with us for two years. Recently she told me she'd like to stay in the country longer, I am sure it is mainly due to a new boyfriend. Anyway, my question is, is there a way she can extend her Visa? She recently sent in some document, but I'm not sure what is was. She is the kind of AP that is only really round during working hours, so I don't talk to her much about personal stuff. We are not interesting in "helping" her in so far as costing us any money, and she isn't asking for that. I'm just curious what (if any) options she has.

Her only option is to get married or become a student (and have all the money she needs to pull that one off). Otherwise she’s screwed.

Lots of threads about families who actually wanted to keep their APs and it didn’t work.

They cannot extend their current visa - no. However, they can get a new visa for a couple of different reasons. 1. If they get married, they can apply for a different type of visa. 2. If they want to become a student in the US, they can get a different visa. They cannot work on the student visa and they have to have a lot of $ in the bank to even qualify for the visa.

I'd refer her to the LCC with these questions and plead ignorance! There isnt an easy way and nothing you can do to help.

Thanks all, that is what I was thinking; that it is either get married or the student visa. I'm not sure what other APs have told her, or what the heck form she has already filled out and sent in. Whatever it is, I'm not getting involved

My Brazilian AP first switched her visa to a visitor Visa and then student Visa. Applying for a change of status buy them time and make them not be illegal while they are waiting (At least that is what she told me and did).
