Asian Au Pair and Hepatitis RSS feed

Since hepatitis is prevalent in Asian countries, what have people done to screen or check their Asian au pairs? CDC recommends Hep B and A vaccines for those traveling to Asia. I'm worried especially for Hep A some the AP may cook ( fecal oral transmission). Hep b we are vaccinated against, would be good to know about Hep C since that could impact care or the AP could potentially get sick while the states.

You are going to get a lot of responses to this that won't be nice, so let me start with a kind recommendation that you not do this to your AP- this feel like a yucky suggestion that your AP is dirty/poor. I'd suggest you source an AP from a different region if this is going to bother you.

OP - This level of concern (paranoia/ignorance) suggests its going to be tough for you to give up control to an AP. You may want to reconsider hosting. Maybe a Nanny would be better, or a fully vetted and certified day care situation. Also, do you have an infant? Probably worth searching this site for threads on APs/Infants as it isn't always the ideal match. Also, it is simply not intelligent to refer to "Asia" as single place. The countries APs come from the region vary widely.

They should have those vaccinations. Request to see vaccination record of her from your agency doesn’t have it visible on their profile

Why not find a non Asian au pair if you’re so concerned?

There is nothing wrong with saying "Asian," just as we often refer to "South American" or "European."

Touchy much? How do you walk out your door in the morning without being offended?

Please stay home with your own kids

what do you do with the Europeans who refuse to get vaccinated or those in the US who refuse to vaccinate their kids? HIV is very high in DC? Do you not let your kids around people from DC either?

This is dumb
